Where raising confident, capable (and not spoiled)
kids meets money smarts.
Our Story
Hi! We’re Courtney and Lauren. Welcome to The Anti-Chore Moms — we’re so glad you’re here. Like most parents, we knew how important it was to teach our kids about money and responsibility from an early age, but we struggled when it came to actually doing this- because every resource we found felt either outdated, overwhelming, or just plain unrealistic for busy families. We wanted something different — something that actually gave hands-on experience while showing our kids the concepts that we knew would prepare them to be financially confident teens and adults. So, after searching high and low and finding nothing that gave our kids real-life experience as a starting point, we created our own system — and when it worked so well for our families (two moms, six kids between us!), we knew we had to share it with you. Enter- The Family Exchange.
Now, before you look at the name of this website and assume “Anti-Chore” means our kids don’t lift a finger — it’s actually the opposite. We’re not “anti-responsibility”. But we ARE anti-nagging, anti-bribing, and anti-constant-power-struggles over who’s unloading the dishwasher. The truth is, every family has things that have to get done for the home to function, and everyone — kids included — play a part in that. But instead of assigning and reminding (and reminding again), we’ve reframed how our families approach household tasks. We call it the “The Family Exchange” method. The daily and weekly responsibilities become part of a shared rhythm, not a battle. From there, we teach our kids to look beyond the basics — to notice where they can add value in ways that make life better for everyone. And when they do? They earn. But it doesn't stop there- we also guide them on what to do with the money they earn- helping them understand saving, spending, investing and giving in a way that actually makes sense. Because if there’s one lesson we know matters most, it’s this: money isn’t earned by checking boxes; it’s earned by creating value- and it’s kept and grown by learning how to manage it wisely.
